If you want lots of free skills, go with Prophecies. If you want a specific look, find the campaign with the one you like the most, appearance wise (like the ponytails in Factions).

Prophecies has the best looking characters imo.

As for leveling, do your own thing till you have all your Att points and can select a build you would like to run or ask again after your reached level 20.

The best way to learn your class is playing about with it till you've reached level 20 or you've found a build you enjoy. One thing i will say, Soul reaping is your friend.

For a newbie necro, I would recommend starting out in Nightfall. You'll get [Animate Bone Minions] from primary training. You can then buy [Blood of the Master] and [Signet of Lost Souls] from the skill trainer in Kamadan and you can get [Death Nova] and optionally even [Necrosis] from the hero skill trainer in the Sunspear Great Hall.

With those core skills, you can easily beat the game. Split attributes between Death Magic and Soul Reaping and you'll be fine. Nightfall also has the benefit of offering heros.

Nightfall Necromancers look <3 also you get the Sunspear skills which are fun and helpful to use. Nf necros also have acsess to SS armor which looks really cool so you might wanna think about that >.>

but overall Proph gameplay is very fun however you do lvl up slowly which can be a drag it depends what you want.

proph is the fastest and eziest way to get more skills and to finish faster, a good blood build is the best non-farming PVE build you can use. For leveling I suggest you just do the missions. Proph missions are so easy that any mish you do the hench can pretty much do it for you, I know my mesmer beat proph at level 16 or 17.

go factions and at level 10 rush to gunnars and dwarven box, level 20 in 1.5-2hours. Get a run from LA->Beacons->Rankor and cap Spiteful spirit and your good to go.

I don't think someone who has alot of experience with the class could even manage to keep that on minions.

SS/Barbs/MoP is your best bet for now. Human MM's really don't hold up well, comparatively, in PvE.

Do you have EotN? PvE skills ftw.

IMO, the most effective (as far as you can generalize such a thing) PvE build would be the one syphonus suggested.

[Spiteful Spirit][Reckless Haste][Barbs][Mark of Pain][Enfeebling Blood][empty][empty][Signet of Lost Souls]
With PvE skills in the remaining two slots.

End result even SS isn't great, but it's fine to start off with. In the end you're better off doing [assassin's promise] with PvE skills like ["finish him!"], ["you move like a dwarf!"] and [ebon vanguard assassin support]. Put that with Barbs and MoP and it's just ridiculous.

Always choose your starting campaign based on the character look you like best. Everything else you can change later if you're unhappy with it; but you're stuck with your charcater's look.
